29. A Little Different???

Bedroom Eyes

29.  A Little Different???

So this question is for the girls but of course any guy responses are welcomed as well...Why is it that if you were to walk in on your husband masturbating you would be upset and disturbed by this act? On the flip side we all know that if he walked in on you pleasing yourself he would be turned on and wanting a front seat view. Is this male and female response different because of how our brains work, or is it that as women we want to feel like we are enough, or is it because of stereotypes, or something else completely?

Inquiring minds want to know!!!

02. Shower Love Notes

I often find myself amazed by all the wonderful crafts, ideas, and thoughts that others share. Some people have talents that I envy or come up with ideas that I wish I had shared first. So this is my way of introducing you to my favorites with a newish little segment celebrating "Glitter In The Air".

Glitter In The Air

Remember those days when you would draw or write on the walls with things you weren't supposed to??? As I get older I find that companies are making more and more things I wish was around when I was kid! Who says that just because it's made for kids adults can't have fun using it??? Go out and grab some bath tub paints or crayons and scribble love notes, naughty notes, and encouraging notes all over your bath. Don't forget to leave a little note reminding them that it's their turn to leave you notes next. Maybe the next time you shower together you can use those paints on each other instead of the walls, think of the fun that would be!!!Today I'm stealing this idea from How Does She. This particular post is written by Shelley. She is one of three editors that help run this site. They seriously have cute stuff popping up on pinterest all the time. Which is how I came across this post. Take a peek at their site and see if you fall in love with these girls just as much as I have...

Romantic Turkey Pies

Who doesn't love comfort food, especially for a romantic dinner for two.   Comfort food is always romantic it just doesn't usually look it.  The best way to dress up most dishes is to make them mini.  This makes your presentation cute and sweet as well as addictively delicious.

Romantic Turkey Pies

This dish will make your home smell amazing.   I followed a recipe I found on the Pillsbury site. I added a few more ingredients that I thought would make it just a little bit yummier.  This dish is easy as pie!

2 boxes pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup finely diced red bell pepper
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon parsley flakes
1/4 teaspoon rosemary
1/4 teaspoon marjoram
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 can chicken broth
1/2 cup milk
2 1/2 cups shredded or cubed cooked turkey
2 cups frozen mixed veggies ( I like the organic mix of carrots, green beens, and corn)
1 cup cooked and diced potatoes

egg white wash (2-3 egg whites beaten well)

Heat oven to 425. Make pie crusts as directed on box for Two-Crust Pie.

In 2 quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper, cook for 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until tender. Add a bit of milk and whisk in flour and spices a little at a time until well blended. Gradually stir in broth and milk, cooking and stirring until bubbly and thickened.

Stir in turkey, mixed vegetables, and potatoes. Remove from heat.

Use one pie crust to cover bottom and sides of ramekins.  Cut extra crust keeping a 1/2 inch of crust around top of ramekin.     Spoon pot pie mixture into ramekins.  With other sheet of pie crust use it to make the lattice top on pies.  Cut 1/2 inch wide strips with a knife or pastry wheel.  Lay 4-5 strips vertically on top of your pie.   Fold every other strip back and lay a horizontal strip right under the part folded back.   Unfold the vertical strip so that it lays on top of the horizontal strip.  Continue repeating this step, each time folding back pieces that you didn't fold before until your pie is completed.  Now gently press the crust strips into the bottom crust and finish the edges anyway you like.   I like to fold the strips into the edges so that the edge looks nice and soft and then flute the edges all the way around.

Brush tops of crust with egg wash (this will make your crust shiny and pretty).

Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown. During last 15 to 20 minutes of baking, cover edge of crust with strips of foil to prevent excessive browning. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Optional topping:  Instead of topping with pie crust top with cooked stuffing, this isn't quite as pretty but tastes amazing!

Pink Berry Guacamole

I made this post a few days ago and haven't been able to publish it...I wrote everything out and just needed to add the recipe.  So I finally have wi-fi and I go to publish and the post has completely disappeared!  Writing something the second time around never works out as great as the first, so cross your fingers!

I love this dish because it is pink, pretty, and full of aphrodisiacs.   It is so creamy, yummy, and has just the right amount of sweet and spice. This is a great way to start off a very romantic meal.

Pink Berry Guacamole

1 small carton strawberries, diced
1/2 of medium cucumber, diced
2-3 Tablespoons orange juice
2-3 serrano's, minced (I like my salsa hot!!!)
1 small bunch of cilantro, minced
salt to taste
If you are an onion fan add 1/4 onion, minced
2 avocados, cubed and save peel for serving (instruction on how to make pretty avocado cubes below)
corn chips

Mix first 6 ingredients in a medium sized mixing bowl.  Sprinkle in about a teaspoon or two of salt.  Gently mix in avocado cubes, so that the avocado doesn't mush up.  Save peels for later.  Taste with a chip to determine if more salt is needed.  If you choose not to taste with a chip just remember that the chip has salt too and be careful not to over-salt.  Serve guacamole in each avocado peel and eat with corn chips.

How to Make Pretty Avocado Cubes:

Using a serrated knife slice middle of avocado lengthwise and run knife around entire avocado, leaving you with two halves.   Now this is where it gets a little dangerous and if you don't have good aim you might not want to try this at home.  Hold avocado half in hand and use knife to chop into pit and gently twist if needed to help loosen pit then lift knife away from avocado half to remove pit.  If this is too tricky use s spoon to scoop pit out.  Hold avocado in your hand with meat facing up and peel touching your hand.  Slice avocado meat lengthwise, being careful not to cut the peel, creating around 5 long slits.  Then turn avocado sideways and slice from one side of avocado to the other making small cubes.  Continue to slice the full length of avocado.  Use a spoon to carefully scoop out meat from peel.

Enjoy every delicious bite!

Hot Tubbin' It

Our good friends Leona & Kevin with their
little boy Dominic
Winter Date Night:  Hot Tubbin' It
Cost: Depends on where you find the hot tub
Perks:  Enjoy a cold winter night sitting in a warm and cozy tub, get dressed in minimal sexy attire, relax in the fresh air.

The day of your date pick up a smoothie for each of you, put it in the freezer to save for your date.  Find a hot tub or hot springs outdoors and enjoy the cool breeze as you stay toasty warm.  Depending on where you go you can find a pretty view as you watch the mist rise off your skin.  The one disadvantage is freezing your butt off as you get out of the pool.  So if you can have a towel nearby and a change of warm clothes.

If you have any winter date ideas please share them. Winter lasts for quite a few months and I would love to have a new date idea to share each week so we don't get the winter love blues!!!

03. Serve One Another

Think of something your spouse hates to do and do it for them.  Or get up a little early to make your spouse breakfast or pack them lunch for work.  When you two are watching TV offer to rub your spouse's back or play with their hair.  Find as many "just because" opportunites to serve each other this week.

Long Drives

I promise once this weekend is over and the surprise party is over I will be back on schedule! My hubby and I are on my way to AZ just passing through Vegas, marking our halfway point.

At some time in your relationship you need to take a long drive with you're spouse. There is a lot to learn about each other while stuck in a car for 13 hours together.

We have learned that I cannot drive for mo...re then an hour our two without falling to sleep. My hubby chauffeurs me around the whole ride in order to keep us alive. To make up for my lack of driving I scratch his arm, neck, rubbing his bum, and grabbing anything he wants. I like to be entertained with chatting, books, games, and music. We have read several really good books on drives (currently we are reading the hunger games for the second time just to refresh before the movie debut). My hubby has learned patience because I need to stop for a potty break almost every hour! We both like to sneak in a little bit of freaky time while on our drive to make the time pass sooner and add a little excitement to all the shrubs and mountains. I pack tons of snacks cause you never know what you want until you want it. Luckily my hubby doesn't nag about it too much anymore. I also pack like I'm going away for a month and he packs likes he's gone for only a coupe of days. I think our trips have pointed out some of our biggest differences. It also shows us how much we can adapt, be flexible, and respect each others differences. It also shows us how well we get along and how much we enjoy these long drives together. How could I not enjoy the journey when i've got the guy that fits me best!

So get yourselves in the car and enjoy the journey.

DIY Romantic Silk Flower

Once a month, I -Alicia, creator of Vintage Spice goodies -get to bring you quick DIY romantic crafts! This month we'll be making a silk flower that you can add to your hair, your clothes, your sheer apron, or anything you desire.

They're so beautiful and versatile. The sky is the limit on what you can do with them! I hot glued a magnet to one and used it as a fridge magnet!

To make it, you're going to need:
A small amount of silk fabric (polyester will work too!)
A small amount of tulle in a matching color
A lighter (or candle)
A Wide Mouth Mason Jar Lid -or another circle object to use as a stencil
Hot Glue Gun
Pencil
Scissors
*Optional: hair clip, magnet, safety pin... to attach your flower to when you're done

The first thing you're going to do is cut circles out of your silk fabric. For my stencil, I used a foam circle I have on hand in my craft supplies. A wide-mouth Mason jar lid would work equally as well.

Cut out four circles:

Set the silk circles aside. Take the tulle and cut out 6 squares that are just a little bigger than the silk circles. I made the mistake of making a white flower using a white background, so I hope you can get the general idea despite the fact that it isn't totally clear:

Set the tulle aside. Take the silk circles, one by one, and cut slits in the sides to begin forming the petals.

Clip the ends off of the petals to round them out:

Using a lighter (or candle) singe the ends of the petals. They will probably catch on fire, so watch carefully!

You can clipped the burned edges off if you don't like the discoloration, but I actually love the look of it:

Next, take two squares of tulle and tie them together:

Use hot glue to glue the tulle to the burned flower:

Repeat the process two times.

Take your last silk circle, burn the edges and then clip the petals apart. Don't worry about neatness.

Glue them on the top layer in random places:

For the flower's center, you can do whatever you want! Glue in a blingy button or a rhinestone... anything you have lying around! I happened to have a strip of sparkly sheer fabric on hand:

I knotted and twisted it a little here and there until it looked like it could go in the middle of my flower, and I glued it on!

Clip your tulle down, being careful to try and make it look something like a flower, and you're done!

Hot glue a safety pin to the back and you've got the perfect accessory for jewelry, hats, scarves, hair, clothes... anything you want to add a little romantic touch to!

Enjoy making it your own!
This post is linking up to Strawberry Mommycakes Feature Me Friday!

Sweet and Salty Kettle Corn Dreams

We all love the smell of popcorn popping right!  I love the smell!  I love the smell even more when it's kettle corn, whether it's cinnamon or cocoa or sugar.  Not only is the smell better but the taste is better too.  My hubby is not a fan of regular popcorn but he loves kettle corn.  This is our perfect movie date snack and once you try it, it will become yours too.

I bought a Whirly Pop popcorn maker which is the best popcorn maker around.  If you don't have one of these you can just use a heavy duty pot with a lid.

Sweet and Salty Kettle Corn Dreams

1/4 cup coconut oil (you can use vegetable, sunflower, or olive oil)
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
1/4 cup sugar
1-2 teaspoons coarse salt

Whirly Pop Directions: Place oil, kernels, and sugar in whirly pop.  Place on medium high heat stove.  Turn handle until popcorn stops popping and handle becomes harder to turn, around 3 minutes.  Remove from heat.  Pour popcorn into large dish and sprinkle with salt.  Take a bite or two to determine if you need more salt.

Large Pot Directions:  In a large pot with a tight-fitting lid, heat the oil over medium-high heat add the popcorn.  When the oil sizzles, sprinkle the sugar over the kernels.  Cover and shake the pan until the popping slows down, about 3 minutes.  Remove from the heat and toss with the salt.

Kernels will harden once they cool.  Separate and break popcorn apart as needed. Serve into popcorn bowls and enjoy with your favorite movie.

Variations

Caramel Kettle Corn:  replace 1/4 cup of sugar for 1/8 cup sugar and 1/8 cup brown sugar.

Cocoa Kettle Corn:  1 Tablespoon Cocoa added to the mixture before popping.

Pumpkin Pie Spice Kettle Corn:  2 teaspoon pumpin pie added to the mixture before popping.

Cinnamon Kettle Corn:  2 teaspoons cinnamon added to the mixture before popping.

Chocolate Drizzle Kettle Corn:  Melt dark chocolate with a little bit of oil and drizzle over kettle corn.  Let cool and break popcorn pieces apart.  This is great on top of Kettle Corn and the Caramel Kettle Corn...
